Seattle Erotic Art Festival Showcases Food Art

Forget your images of whip cream and chocolate sauce, these vegan friendly edible creations are pieces of art celebrating the two basic ingredients of life: eating and touch.

Who knew the annual Seattle festival was for foodies too? James Beard-award-winning chef Tiberio Simone and Seattle photographer Matthew Freedman bring an edible touch (pun fully intended) to the three-day event known mostly for…well just about everything sexy. Food now included.

The duo started work on their book La Figa: Visions of Food and Form nearly five years ago. “This is not about sex,” says Simone. Instead, it’s about promoting the beauty of the food and the human form, he says. Simone pairs the bites with body types similar to the food’s shape and color or in stunning contrast. Both the delicious morsels and the bodies wearing them were collected from around the world.

The book premiers at this weekend’s festival and volunteers will have the chance to become the models. Simone will create new works as well as those seen in the book. The catch: you have to take your clothes off—in front of an audience. Don’t fret if you’re camera shy, you can still get in on the action by sampling some tasty morsels. Best part, you don’t have to lift a finger. Simone will personally feed you. And if that’s not sweet enough, take a bite out of the book, literally. The whole thing is made with vegetable ink and fully edible! Although we’d recommend taking the chef up on his offer of samples instead.

The Seattle Erotic Arts Festival is this weekend, May 20-22. Friday and Saturday noon-2am; Sunday 11am-8pm. One-day pass $30; Three-day pass $55. Fremont Studios, 155 N 35th St
